CBI - Central Bank of India was established by the eminent freedom fighter, Sir Pherozesha Mehta in December 1911 for the realization of the dream of Sir Sorabji Pochkhanawala, of establishing a bank which is wholly owned and managed by Indians. Since its establishment the bank has been living his dream making the bank a national asset – a property of the nation. Sir Pherozesha Mehta was also the first chairman of the bank. Its headquarters are situated in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Central bank of India was nationalized in July 1969 along with 13 other banks by the Government of India whose assets were more than fifty crores. It is one of the oldest and major commercial banks of India having a wide network of 3963 branches, 270 extension counters and 980 automated teller machines (ATMs). It is a state owned bank with 80% shares with the government.
