Dating back its roots to India's Independence, Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) was established in 1947 in Kochi, Kerala, under the Ministry of Agriculture, to study the activities marine biodiversity on the environment. CMFRI conducts regular research and development experiments to understand marine agricultural advancements, how the ecosystem gets affected on the whole and how rigorous changes can be made to ensure stability. Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) collaborates with numerous public and private research centres to bring about changes in terms of research programmes and better salvaging techniques.
