Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) is one of the top class medical institute of India and Asia as well. It is situated in Chandigarh, India. It was established in 1962 by the then chief minister of Punjab late Sardar Partap Singh Kairon. PGIMER was initially under the administrative control of Punjab government. After the bifurcation of state and formation of Chandigarh as a union territory, the control of the Union Territory of Chandigarh in November 1966. The institute was granted the status of autonomous body by the parliament act of 1967, functioning under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Union Government of India.
