National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) is India’s largest power company with an installed capacity of 39,174 MW with 22 (15 coal based and 7 gas based stations) Thermal power stations spread across the country. It was established in November 1975 to accelerate power generation in India. The government has 84.5% holding in NTPC equity, and is a Bombay Stock Exchange listed company. NTPC was ranked 341st in the ‘2010 Forbes Global 2000’ ranking of world’s biggest companies. NTPC has been running its plants with full efficiency and contributes about 32% of total power generation due to high efficiency. NTPC has adopted a multi-pronged growth strategy which includes capacity addition through green field projects, expansion of existing stations, joint ventures, subsidiaries and takeover of stations.
