Founded by a small group of activists from Canada, United States, New Zealand and France in 1971, it has since grown to become one of the largest independent global campaigning organizations. Its mission is to ensure the ability of future generations to live on a healthy planet through research, education and advocacy for sustainable development. It works towards protecting oceans and forests as well as promoting renewable energy sources such as solar power instead of nuclear or fossil fuels.
