About Us
Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) is an autonomous body of the Government of India established under the Ministry of Earth Sciences. Its headquarters is situated in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. INCOIS carries out systematic and focused research work on the ocean and provides information and advice to the society, industry, government and scientific community about oceanic activities. Oceans are a huge source of energy and storehouse of resources like metals, petroleum and natural gas and chemicals etc. Humans and many other animals get a lot of nutrition from the oceans which can be in the form of fish, prawn, lobsters etc. Many rare herbs are also extracted from the ocean. Oceans are also a good and cheap means of transport through ships, oil tankers etc.
